Necrotizing Enterocolitis – Necrotizing enterocolitis occurs when the lining of the intestines becomes damaged and bacteria invade the intestinal wall.

Symptoms:

  1. Feeding intolerance: Difficulty tolerating feedings, frequent vomiting, or abdominal distension.
  2. Bloody stools: Passage of blood in the stool, which may appear dark or maroon in color.
  3. Abdominal swelling or tenderness: The abdomen may feel distended, firm, or tender to the touch.
  4. Lethargy or apnea: Decreased activity, listlessness, or episodes of stopped breathing (apnea).
  5. Temperature instability: Fluctuations in body temperature, such as hypothermia or fever.
