Hernia- Laparoscopic/Open Hernioplasty
Hernia- A portion of the intestine can protrude through a weakened area in the abdominal wall, leading to an obstruction if the hernia becomes trapped or incarcerated.
An organ or tissue protrudes through a weak spot or opening in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. It typically creates a visible bulge or lump in the affected area. Hernias can occur in various parts of the body, but they most commonly develop in the abdominal or groin area.
Symptoms:
- A visible or palpable bulge or lump in the affected area.
- Discomfort or pain at the site of the bulge, particularly during physical activity or lifting heavy objects.
- A feeling of heaviness or pressure in the affected area.
- Burning or aching sensation.
- In some cases, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or changes in bowel movements may occur if the hernia becomes incarcerated or strangulated (when the blood supply to the protruding tissue is compromised).
- Strangulated hernia is a surgical emergency which requires immediate surgery within 4-6 hours of onset of non reducible hernia as it cause gangrene of entrapped part.
