Hernia- Laparoscopic/Open Hernioplasty

Hernia- A portion of the intestine can protrude through a weakened area in the abdominal wall, leading to an obstruction if the hernia becomes trapped or incarcerated.

An organ or tissue protrudes through a weak spot or opening in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. It typically creates a visible bulge or lump in the affected area. Hernias can occur in various parts of the body, but they most commonly develop in the abdominal or groin area.

Symptoms:

  1. A visible or palpable bulge or lump in the affected area.
  2. Discomfort or pain at the site of the bulge, particularly during physical activity or lifting heavy objects.
  3. A feeling of heaviness or pressure in the affected area.
  4. Burning or aching sensation.
  5. In some cases, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or changes in bowel movements may occur if the hernia becomes incarcerated or strangulated (when the blood supply to the protruding tissue is compromised).
  6. Strangulated hernia is a surgical emergency which requires immediate surgery within 4-6 hours of onset of non reducible hernia as it cause gangrene of entrapped part.
