Lipoma, Sebaceous Cyst/ Other Lump – Excision

Lipoma, Sebaceous Cyst/ Other Lump – Excision – Lipoma excision is a surgical procedure performed to remove a lipoma, which is a noncancerous growth of fat cells that forms a lump under the skin.

Lipoma removal: The surgeon carefully dissects and removes the lipoma from the surrounding tissues. The lipoma is usually encapsulated, making it easier to remove. In some cases, the surgeon may need to use techniques such as blunt dissection or electrocautery to separate the lipoma from the surrounding tissue and ensure complete removal.

Post-surgery care and recovery after lipoma excision are generally straightforward. The patient may be advised to keep the incision clean and dry, avoid strenuous activities or heavy lifting for a period of time, and follow any specific instructions provided by the surgeon. Sutures, if used, may be removed in a follow-up appointment.
Complications from lipoma excision are rare but can include infection, bleeding, scarring, and recurrence of the lipoma

Syptoms:

A lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) growth of fat cells that forms a lump under the skin. It is one of the most common types of soft tissue tumors. Lipomas can occur anywhere in the body where fat cells are present, but they are most commonly found on the neck, shoulders, back, arms, or thighs.

The characteristics of a lipoma include:

  1. Soft and rubbery texture: Lipomas typically have a soft, doughy consistency when touched.
  2. Moveable: They can be easily moved or shifted when pressure is applied.
  3. Well-defined shape: Lipomas are usually well-defined, round or oval-shaped lumps.
  4. Slow-growing: Lipomas tend to grow slowly over time, although in some cases, they may remain stable in size.
